Dear First Grade Parents, My name is Ms. Bey, and I am your child’s new first grade teacher! This will be my second year teaching at Sela PCS and my third year teaching first grade. During my first year, I taught at KIPP DC where I received a year’s worth of training and professional development. I have a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and I am certified to teach Pre-K through third grade in Washington, D.C. I love teaching first grade! Leading our students through explorations and hands-on learning experiences that fuel their creativity and critical thinking skills is very rewarding! I am so ecstatic about teaching your children this school year and helping them to become reading rock stars, magical mathematicians, and savvy scientists. Please do not hesitate to contact me via email at [email protected]. I know we can work together to make your child’s first grade experience an amazing one. I look forward to meeting each of you soon! Best regards, Ms. Bey My name is Ms. McClaine. I will be Ms. Bey’s Instructional Assistant for the 2016-2017 school year. I have been working in the school system for 7 years, and have enjoyed the opportunity to do so. This will be my first year assisting 1st grade. I have been an instructor in before and aftercare for 5 years, and this will be my third year being an Instructional Assistant. This school year I am excited to build relationships, and see the developmental skills our students will establish throughout the year. This past summer I took time to relax and prepare my heart and mind to ensure that the education of your child continues to come first. Feel free to contact me via email anytime at [email protected].
Best Regards, Ms. McClaine |
1st Grade Expectations |
First grade is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. This year we will tackle new levels of reading, obtain dynamite scores on our NWEA tests and soar with Math, Science and Social Studies. Your first graders will grow academically, but also physically, emotionally, and socially. First graders develop fundamental work habits, appropriate social behavior, problem solving and decision making skills and of course academic skills. To learn more about the Common Core Standards that will be explored this year, check out the standards for ELA http://www.corestandards.org/ELA-Literacy/ and Math http://www.corestandards.org/Math/.
